TOURNAMENT RULES

eSoftballSanDiego.com will use AFA Tournament Rules with the following exceptions:
  1. Age Divisions: Divisions are based upon player's age on December 31, of the previous calendar year the age classification in which the player is eligible to participate.
  2. Time limit will play no inning after 1 hr. 20 mins in pool play and single elimination playoffs, except the championship game which will have no time limit. The umpire will keep official game time. Game time starts after pre game meeting at the plate.
  3. Run Rule: 12 runs after 4 innings, 10 runs after 5 innings, and 8 runs after 6 innings.
  4. Pool play seedings will be based on the following: (1) best record (2) head to head play (3) least runs allowed (4) highest run differential (7 runs max) (5) most runs scored and (6) coin toss.
  5. After the completion of 7 innings, or when time limits have expired, and the score is tied, the "international tiebreaker rule" will begin. The last batter who had the last completed at bat the previous inning, assumes a position on 2nd base.
  6. Tie: In pool play - if at the end of 7 innings or if the time limit expires (full inning must be finished) games will end in a tie. Any pool game can end in a tie. After pool play - games cannot end in a tie. If at the end of 7 innings, or time limit expires, the next inning starts with a runner (the batter scheduled to bat last in the respective half inning) at second base.
  7. DP/Flex: DP and Flex players may be used. Example: The DP hits for the flex players anywhere in the batting order. The Flex may play any defensive positions, and may enter the game offensively only in the DP position.
  8. AFA approved ball will be the official ball for league and tournaments.
  9. Game time is forfeit time, unless wavied by the tournament director.
  10. Home team will be determined before the game with a coin flip. Home team shall occupy third base dugout. In playoff, higher seeded team is home team. If two teams have the same seeding and have not played each other home team will be decided by a coin toss. Coin toss for home team in the championship game.
  11. All protest will be accompanied with a $100 protest fee before the protest will be discussed or ruled on. All protest must be made at the time of the play and before the next pitch is made. This protest fee includes all player protests as well. You cannot protest a judgement call.
  12. No infield practice before a game. Warm up in foul territory only.
  13. Courtesy runners will be allowed for the pitcher and catcher at any time. The courtesy runner will be someone not cureently in the game or if the team has no layers on the bench, the last out. A courtesy runner may only run one tme per inning.
  14. Slide and avoid rule - it is the base runner's responsibility to avoid contact with the fielder when he has the ball. Slide or avoid is in effect at all times when a fielder is in possesion of ball. Inntionally running into a fielder who is in possession of the ball is grounds for ejection.
  15. Players may only play on one team during a weekend. Thus rule applies no matter where the AFA tournament is located in Southern California.
  16. Any team forfeiting a game may not advance to playoff round if it is determined that it is beneficial to that team with regards to runs allowed/differential etc.
  17. Any manager or coach ejected from the game will sit out the next game. Any player ejected from a game is subject to a one game suspension at the tournament director's discretion. Managers are responsible for the conduct of his players and fans.
  18. Any team knowing using illegal players shall be subjecdt to discipline ranging from forfeiting a game, ejection from the tournament and a one year suspension.
  19. Roster may not exceed 20 players during the tournament and no player may be added to the tournament roster after the teams first game without the tournament director's approval.
  20. Tournament Director shall have the final decision on all tournament matters.Strike zone: 3 ft min. and 10 ft max., plate and mat strike zone.
